2021 @EA Play Live and Gary's Pit Stop
No studio E3 party this year. I, however, did an eye makeup for EA Play Live in celebration of our transformation from DICE LA to Ripple Effect Studios™ and the reveal of Battlefield Portal. Like an extra on a movie set, I had no idea how brief or tiny or blurry I would appear on screen as a virtual participant alongside my fellow comrades. Slim to none: chances of viewers remembering our faces.
No matter, I took out my eyeliner and started drawing, referencing a warrior makeup by Shu Uemura for this occasion. Two hours the wings took me. Two hours wasted if no one saw the details up close. Witnesses I needed and witnesses I found. At Gary's Pit Stop.
My mechanics are the best in class and fun and wonderful. In midst of a busy day, they doubled as my photo shoot crew, working it better than I can. Thanks to them, I have fun pictures to keep and share. #eaplaylive #rippleeffectstudios #battlefieldportal
2018 @SLS Hotel
This year I sported an unfinished look to the E3 party because in my haste to get out of the door, I forgot to powder my face. Thought I got the hair covered with extra pins, aerosol hairspray, and teasing comb, but once again the online tutorial made it look too effortless. Oh this pompadour style inflamed my already overworked hands some more.
No break with the eye makeup I picked either. I assumed the nail art stickers would make it easy - just brush over it and peel it off when done. Right. The stickers half-stick so I could only dab lightly, otherwise it would come off my lids. And the ones that actually stick, I tore it when taking it off the sheet. Boy did I swear. 3+ hours of labor. I made the party at last. With ultrasound hand therapy the next morning.

I combined the two SHU looks for the makeup, but even I needed help with the hair, because I wanted cornrows but I can't braid. My beautiful friend Latoya to the rescue. My request was specific: that the braids begin where the eyelines end. And a fantastic job she did!

I modified the lines from the original to fit my eye shape. It's harder than it looks. And with our awesome animation craft director Gil at the venue.
